The Mediterranean Diet Cookbook for Healthy Living takes the guess work out of following a healthy Mediterranean diet, long recommended as one of the best diets in the world. The recipes are really easy to follow and each one clearly identifies the calories and key nutrients of each recipe. Haugen includes variations and tips so that you don’t feel locked into the recipes if you don’t like an ingredient or just don’t have it on hand.The meals plans are fantastic. Each day gives you recipes or foods that you can eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks and tells you exactly how many calories, carbs, proteins and fats you will be eating. The first night, my girlfriend and I tried the Baked Rigatoni and Cauliflower and, the Watermelon Feta and Mint Salad. They tasted great and was very satisfying. Today we had the Crustless Market Vegetable Quiche – also great – with enough for leftovers for tomorrow. Highly recommended cookbook!
As a holistic health coach who also loves cookbooks, I found this one to be extremely helpful on a number of levels. If you have never been to the Mediterranean, this book is a glimpse at what fine eating you would experience. The cookbook is easy, well organized and provides meal plans as well as nutritional data. Dieting is always such a difficult task, and a person has tons of books and access to many websites. What I immediately loved about this book was the ease of reading what information you needed to know, and it wasn't hampered down with excessive prologue etc, it got to the grit and basics of what you needed to know about your diet plan and how to use what was going to be given in the book.The meal plan is a life saver and so easy to adjust once you have the basics and habits formed. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to eat light and easy to prepare meals, any day.I would love to see a dairy free cook book from this author!
I admit that I do not exclusively eat a Mediterranean diet, but this cookbook will be my go to for full meals or just sides and salads.
Ever since my dietitian recommended I try the Mediterranean Diet to reduce my A1C and lose some weight, I have been struggling to get started. This cookbook and the meal plans are my life-saver. Not only do the meal plans save me the time planning ahead for what I want to eat but the recipes are easy to make and I can adjust quantities so I have leftovers the next day or so. I no longer have to guess what is and what is not healthy and an acceptable food for my diet. This book takes care of it all.The ingredients in the recipes are readily found in your grocery store or are already in your pantry. The directions are easy to understand and follow, and don’t leave anything to guesswork. The tips that are included with many of the recipes are very helpful.There are many more recipes for vegetables, legumes, meatless dishes and seafood than there are for other foods which is perfect for what anyone following this eating style should be emphasizing. All the calories, carbs, proteins and fat counts are included which makes everything so helpful and laid out right there in front of you. There are also several recipes for Mediterranean breakfast which had found very hard to find – but here they are. The pictures make just about everything look so delicious that I may need to be watching those calories!Overall this book is a great find and something you will find yourself making recipes from this cookbook whether you are following the Mediterranean lifestyle – as Haugen calls it – or are just looking for a healthy, flavorful dish.I received the eBook in exchange for my honest review. BTW the eBook looks just like a regular cookbook would look so the recipes lay out perfectly to read. So, if the hard copy comes out I’d definitely recommend that too!
