Great book and documentation of something that no one ever thinks about. It includes both micrometeorites and other particles of the same size, like those left behind from fireworks. A beautiful expression of how nothing really ever disappears. I don't want to take away any stars, but I wish the image print quality was a little better, or it came with access to higher resolution images. If it is published as an art book by Phaidon Press, I would buy it all over again. I think it would make a great present, for a kid if it comes with a microscope, or for an adult that like geology or the astronomy.

This is a good book that can inspire many amateur and professional scientists to undertake a vaiety of projects. But there are some major flaws, the most glaring being the absence of captioning on many of the photos. Most have no information on what we are seeing. For example, page 42 has a heading â€œcryptocrystalline micrometeoritesâ€ followed by 8 pages with no captions at all. Are these all â€œcryptocrystalline micrometeoritesâ€? They include many different appearing morphologies, some resembling, to my eye barred, olivine micrometeorites. How do we tell them apart? We are told more material on each image can be obtained from the author on request. This seems unfair to not give the reader more information in the book they purchased, rather than needing to go an extra step. I, for example, want to know more about all of them. Would the author send me all those files? The illustrations have plenty of room at bottom for captions and explanations. Their absence turns many pages into essentially a coffee-table book of odd objects. It would be very useful also to have more explanatory text about the various categories. How, for example, does one ablation spherulites from cryptocrystalline meteorites? A table summarizing the types and the basic characteristics would be incredibly handy. Oh, and appealling to routine chemical anlyses to distinguish the types? I agree, likely needed, but most readers will likely not have an SEM on hand to do such analyses. The last section on â€œroad dust crystalsâ€ has stunning photos of single crystals, but weak explanations. Is it too much to tell readers which ones are likely pyritie, pyrite pseudomorphed by iron oxides, garnet dodecahedra, etc.? It is a shame that this section has so little information content. I really like this book and the doors it opens, but am frustrated because it could be so much more.

This is a fascinating book about an overlooked phenomenon where zillions of tons of "stardust" rains down on Earth each year. With a good hand lens or microscope you can find these tiny spheres most anywhere fine debris accumulates. Great project for kids. This is one of the only books for the lay person on the topic that I've ever seen. Good value too.

I found this book in the new books section of my library and checked it out. The book entranced me with outstanding images of extremely beautiful very tiny objects photographed through a high-powered microscope. They are photographs of tiny meteorites raining down on us every day. But you do not see them, they are so small. And, they are so beautiful.

A wonderful treatise on micrometeorites in our modern environment. Excellent photos and discussion of the characteristics of both extraterrestrial and terrestrial samples.

I saw an advertisement on Yahoo for this book, they showed a few recipes like Unicorn Snack Mix, Unicorn Cupcakes, Unicorn Grilled Cheese, Unicorn Bread and Unicorn Pasta just to name a few. It looked like a really cute beginners cookbook for my youngest Granddaughter since she likes every Pink and Girly, she is 12. I bought the book on a shopping trip and picked up another one here on Amazon. Today I finally took the time to look thru the book completely and was shocked to see recipes for Unicorn Jelly Shots and Unicorn Margaritas just to name a few! Obviously not suitable for a child like its marketed. Had I knew this I would not of bought her one!

This book is ADORABLE. I love that itâ€™s not all sugary sweets. There are healthy recipes in here that are still fun and Unicorn-y! Plus beautiful photography, I feel like I could leave it out on my coffee table. It would also make a great Pride present this month, if youâ€™re into that!

So much fun! Great recipes for someone like me who isn't great at cooking but loves to do it regardless!

This is a delightful book. Got the book from the library and loved it so much, decided I had to have a copy of my own. The author covers a very serious matter without offending any race or religion and his sense of humour is great. Everyone should read this book

Initially, this author got on my nerves. I was so irritated, I fired off a review before I finished it. To anyone who has read the whole thing, I sounded like a jackass. Fortunately, it's a quick read, so I can amend my error.It is charming, interesting, humane and funny.If everyone in the world was this wise,we'd all be a lot better off.

A great read, and the book was in perfect condition.

I liked the inside look at being Muslim in a non-Muslim country. It seemed to be repetitive in places. I also wanted it to end better than it did. I don't like it when you have to get another book to see how things turn out. It could have been finished and if I wanted to purchase the next book, I would have felt better about the decision.

My friends and I chose this for our book club. I enjoyed the writing style and the insight. As a non-Christian in the Western world I can identify with some of the treatments and sentiments. I enjoyed the book and thought it was worth the price paid for the Kindle edition.

Very very nice book!

This is a beautiful book. From what I have read so far, it is very clearly written (undoubtedly the product of years of rewritings and revisions), connecting topics that are very connected but normally never included in one book on Lie groups (including symmetric functions, tableaux and many other topics from algebraic combinatorics). I plan to write a more detailed review once I have finished reading it, but at 600 pages (of densely packed but very well organized information) and less than US$50.00, it is very highly recommended as a textbook and as a reference.PS If this book were published by Kluwer, they would probably be charging US$500.00

Don't get me wrong, this book is good to read and I will be buying more of David Baldacci's books, but this one was a bit strange. There is a sub plot involving Michelle that has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the story. I kept waiting for both stories to come together, but it never did. It was distracting from the main storyline, in fact, the sub plot could have had it's own book. Both stories are good, with surprises aplenty but it still didn't make sense to me. Overall, First Family is a good book with the main story line being strong and the book flows along nicely. Would I recommend this book to anyone else? Absolutely!

The First Lady Jane Cox knew Sean King many years ago when he was still in the Secret Service. Now, she needs his help and his partnerâ€™s Michelle Maxwell to find her niece who apparently has been kidnapped from her home. But just how much help does she really want? Are there compromising skeletons that could be uncovered in their digging?Little do they know that Jane and her husband, the president, immensely angered someone years ago. They have to use all of their wits to avoid being collateral damage in the agenda of a very determined individual, especially because they are getting very little help from Jane. One thing is for sure, the status quo before the abduction gets turned upside down. And there is the call out of the blue that Michelleâ€™s mother has died, possibly murdered, on top of their case. Michelle finally has to confront her past.

King and Maxwell are such a good team. Of the 3 - 4 books I've read involving this team, I like this book the best. It was so interesting and I liked much of the dialogue between Sean and Michelle. They're so comfortable with each other. Their banter is fun to hear and occasionally they ribbed one another - particularly in this book. We also sometimes know their inner thoughts - including dread or fear at times. Very near the beginning, King and Maxwell come across Tyler - a teenager - who was thinking about running away from home. Initially, almost against their better judgement, they take to him and become involved in helping him with what turns out to be huge; at the same time, they know he can't really pay them. As they they become more involved, and some threats were made against them, Sean quipped to Michelle: "In for a dime, in for a dollar." Michelle replied dryly, "I'm just wondering when we're going to run out of change." Eventually their sheltering Tyler and their wanting to understand more about some mysterious events unfolding led them them in several different directions. The plot kept going and going: in the first third of the book it seemed as if nothing was really going to happen. Plus at times too much explanation was given about what they were doing. Then it suddenly picked up. I'm so glad I continued the book. Of course some bad guys were involved; we're kept in the dark for quite awhile about how exactly are the "bad guys".

A lively sometimes believable story of sex and violence. Politicians think they are above the law and usually are. Sam Quarry with a work ethic that made America what it is levels the playing field because his daughter was damaged with disregard. King and Maxwell save the day but later make sure documents of politician malfeasance reaches appropriate hands. Though Sam Quarry is killed it is during the effort to save the youngsters. Ever the teacher, he instructs the children to avoid hatred because revenge is wrong.

Baldacci is one of my favorite authors. Anything he writes, I am eager to read and always enjoy particularly the political plots. This one was intriguing in that he did NOT try to paint the President and the First Lady as perfectly innocent and untouchable but instead as real people with real faults and problems. The picture of the First Lady as responsible for her husband is one that too many women understand too well. King and Maxwell are, as usual, bigger than life in some ways, but that is what we like about them. Their dedication to one another is particularly attractive. King's trip to Maxwell's home town is particularly touching and their dedication to that mystery in the middle of the Presidential kidnapping was a glimpse into their real character. The exposure to the little place in Alabama was a character sketch in itself. My heart understood the Quarry family as well as Ruth Ann and Gabriel and their devotion. In short, the plot within a plot is pure Baldacci at his best and the end is absolutely AMAZING! When I finished the book, I put it down absolutely exhausted but totally pleased with another finely tuned mystery that teased my brain and taught m a lesson. I highly recommend it to readers who love to be challenged and want to feel the energy.

For an author that apparently researches his books, I had a difficult time with the kidnapper. The author makes it a point to tell us several times that the man had no education and then mentions several times that he was a F-4 pilot in Viet Nam. As an Air Force veteran I can tell you that a college education and officer training are a requirement to be a military pilot. These type of gaffes make it hard to stay focused on a book that already wanders around too much. Where were the editors?

I plan to have chicks next Spring. Having this book before hand will be a wonderful tool to make sure I do it right the first time. I appreciate that Kathy never wavers in her advice. The information she provides on her live feeds matches everything in the book. There is no back and forth.The book is easy to read and I recommend it for anyone thinking of getting chickens or who already has them and has been "winging" it.

I have been around chickens all my life. This book is a great review for us "old timers" and certainly if you are new at backyard chicken keeping, GET THIS BOOK! This book, along with The Chicken Chicks blog, FB and website; information is everywhere. Also, Kathy is very good at replying to emails when you just are not sure on something.And...the book smells good. You'll see!

I love this book! Straightforward, sensible, funny -- Kathy makes chicken keeping pretty easy if you follow her guidelines. Everything she has recommended, from her easy peel hard boiled eggs, to her heated cookie tin waterer, has worked perfectly, and that kind of honesty REALLY has meaning for me.If Kathy says it, she's researched it, tried it, and therefore I trust that it will be best for my chickens.I highly recommend this book.

This book is amazing for down to earth, real life, NO NONSENCE, and easy to follow backyard chicken keeping. Love how Kathy sticks with the facts on how to raise and keep your chickens healthy. Wow! I have at least a dozen other books about raising backyard chickens, and this by far is the most well written and easy to understand. When the book arrived, I just started to flip through before I had a chance to sit and read, and I found myself stopping and reading through entire chapters, so I stopped what I was doing and stared reading from the beginning.Kathy writes with an ease that makes you feel she's right there with you, answering your questions or helping you with a problem. She covers a wide range of topics that both first time and long-time chicken owners would find informative as well as entertaining.The photography is beautifully done, and the way the book is designed laid out is perfect, especially the "Rachel Recommends" tips boxes.All my other books will now go up to the top shelf to gather dust. This one is going to be loving worn with dog-eared pages.

I bought this set for my daughter who just turned 7 years old. She absolutely loves reading and I knew it would be something she would enjoy reading. Every night we read several chapters together and I am so proud of her, these books are great!! They really keep her entertained and wanting to actually keep reading. I knew that it could be a challenge, because some vocabulary was way past her level, but itâ€™s been great because she has learned many new words! All in all, absolutely love this set!Oh and my son(3 years old) loves hearing in on us reading!

I HAD to purchase this set for a few of the girls in my 5th grade class. They have devoured this series. These books are great for upper elementary students.

Mermaids are all the rage right now. Anything that will get kid's attention and get them reading is great. Purchased for an 11 year old, but could probably span ages 8 thru 13.

My 7 year old daughter (will be 8 in a couple weeks) LOVED the first book but was a bit scared by the second so we are going to hold off until she's a bit older.

We bought these to read to our 5 year old daughter. She really enjoys the story. The story is more complex then other chapter books we have read to her (Junie B. Jones and Magic Tree House), so there were times where she seemed a bit bored. Our 11 year old asked to borrow them from her sister and she enjoyed them.

My 8 year old daughter loves these books!!! Such good stories and we love the 6 pack so she already has the next one in line every time sheâ€™s done with a book!!

My 8 yr old daughter is LOVING this series! She loved the Nevergirls too, but this one is her favorite. Definitely recommend if you have a daughter who loves mermaids.

The best series my 7 year old daughter and I have read together ever and we read a lot. The story is equally interesting for parents and kids. We both get so excited about reading each night because we canâ€™t wait to see what happens! Highly recommend!

This book was absolutely worth it. Barrett changed my whole perspective on the test and really helped me understand what I needed to do in order to get a high score. He clearly explains how the SAT is made and why understanding this is so crucial to doing well on it. I used this book all summer to study for my SAT and got a 1550 on my first try!!

I read this book so carefully and took so many notes that I can say I literally spent at least three entire days with it. And it payed out! Went from 1220 to 1460.

This book is hands down the most useful book you could use to raise your score for the New SAT.Iâ€™m a rising junior scheduled to take the SAT this October, and so far my familyâ€™s spent hundreds of dollars on outside tutors and tuition programs to teach me the â€œhidden secretsâ€ of the SAT and understand the ins and outs of this standardized test. This book will cover nearly all the strategies taught by outside, private tutors AND teach you how to truly understand the test, why the College Board designed it the way it is, and how to exploit its weaknesses to your advantage.Not only that, but you get detailed answer explanations for every question of every section of four real College Board SAT tests, covering why every wrong answer is wrong and why every right answer is objectively right.This book has been my holy grail in self-preparation for the New SAT, and I highly recommend you buy it if you are serious about raising your score by at least a couple hundred points.If you are still unsure about this book, just let its five-star reviews speak for themselvesâ€¦Enjoy!

Amazing test prep. A weekish before the SAT I realized I should probably study, so off I went to Amazon to find a book - there was no class, tutor, or online video that I felt could really help me in the amount of time I had left. I saw the Black Book at the top of the page, but after hearing it had 600 pages immediately looked for another option. I read online about the best books to use and eventually came back to this behemoth. Okay, 600 pages or not, I guess this was the book. I got the book that week before my first SAT, and, while trying to read 600 pages seemed impossible, actually reading the book wasn't as hard as it initially seemed because the way they write is easy to understand and engaging. Plus, probably over half of the pages were walkthroughs of the first four practice tests so there wasn't actually 600 pages you have to read every line of. The walkthroughs, though, were invaluable as they helped me understand how to work through all of the problems multiple different ways (you can see how others might answer that you never thought of, and that might actually be better). If you don't have a lot of time before the test, or you don't want to read all 600 pages, you can just do one or two of the walkthroughs and that will reduce a lot of pages. For me, each night I read one test section's material/tips, did the first practice test on that section (I printed the practice tests out myself-they aren't in the book), and then scored it and evaluated how I could improve using his walkthroughs. This meant that after four days I had read about the reading, math, writing, and essay (the book is structured in that order) and had finished the first practice test. After that, I did one whole practice test and reviewed it using his walkthroughs for the next two nights. At this point, my score hadn't improved a lot since the first practice test, but each time I had encountered new problems that I wasn't sure about and after looking at the walkthroughs felt confident in being able to do next time. On the day of the test, I felt much better about my timing, skills, and the test's structure overall because of Mike and Patrick's book. One of the questions I had gotten wrong and reviewed in a walkthrough the night before actually appeared on the test! Not yet sure of the score, but I can say it didn't seem as hard as I thought it would be solely due to their solid advice and practice walkthroughs. 10/10 recommend to anyone, whether you have a lot of time to study or not!Update: The first SAT I took (June 2018), the one I wrote this review about originally, I got a 1500. I wanted to take it one more time, but I then procrastinated studying again and with one week left reviewed the book and took the remaining practice test that the book covers. I also looked back over the printed practice tests I did the first time, finding where I commonly made mistakes. For the August 2018 SAT I got a 1530. This book was amazing not only for how to think about the test, but also just to review concepts for both math and grammar.

Spent the night reading the first 70 pages. This book just made me realize I can have better marks than what I was hoping for. I was skeptical about getting even a 700 on reading and writing section. After the first 70 pages and using the methods written, I answered a couple of questions without even reading the passage. I was completely blown away by it. Best 29 bucks ever spent. With this knowledge I am looking forward to get around 780. This book completely stated the exact mistakes I was making reading a passage, and how it prevented me from getting answers right. I still have yet to read the writing and math section, but I am optimistic that the book will help me in those sections as well.To be honest this is my first review, and Mike Barrett, I would like to thank you for helping me out here. Your book helped me understand the test better and reduce my stress and anxiety.I would definitely recommend people to buy it. If you are expecting practice questions and other stuff like you find in Kaplan, barron's and Princeton review, you wont find them in the book. But whats inside will completely amaze you. So simple yet never thought about.

Our teaching center helps kids who want to do well on the ACT and SAT, and also help those who did not get good scores do better the next time around. We have tried every product out there, and ALL of the kids do well following the strategies outlined in this book -- and some with some very dramatic increases over a short time. It's absolutely the best guidance on SAT strategies (and their ACT book, too). You will NOT be disappointed. Please know you do have to buy the Official ACT guide to make the best use of the guidance, however.
