Fiona is just such a sweet girl and the staff who got her through should feel so proud.For her first birthday I took my niece to the Cincinnati zoo to see Fiona - this year I’m giving her the book and a hippo charm for her 2nd birthday, she may not remember our adventure, but we can relive it through this sweet story for years to come.
Have followed Fiona, since as a premie, she entered our world at 29 lbs; now a little over a year old weighs over 800. Her chance of survival was not good but with excellent care she survived. Thane Maynard, with the Cincinnati Zoo, wrote this book. There are great pictures of Fiona's progress. There are other books written about Fiona; however, I wanted to wait for Thane Maynard's to be published. Fiona makes history at the Cincinnati Zoo and Thane Maynard, for many years, is a vital part of the Cincinnati Zoo. I knew his book would be good and it is.
This is a wonderful book that tells the story of how this premature hippo was able to survive and thrive due to the loving care and support of the amazing Cincinnati Zoo staff, veterinarians, NICU nurses, as well as some scientific help from the National Zoo in Washington. Fiona and her story have captured the hearts and minds of the public and this is a true feel good story in an otherwise contentious and chaotic world. I love Fiona! â¤ï¸
Very cute book. Fiona’s early beginnings are fascinating and heartwarming. I hope an adult book is released about her progress!
My granddaughters name is Fiona @ that is why I purchased this book. The other reasons is the quality & photos throughout this book. This will be a favorite of hers for years to come. We even bought her a stuffed hippo to sit with her when the story is read to her. Happy with my purchase.
My granddaughter has actually visited Fiona several times and we have videos of her reacting to Fiona in the water tank coming up to her and her squealing with delight. She loves this book. I babysit her and she goes through the book every day and gets excited.
