"German in 10 Minutes a day" is designed for the person who is self-motivated enough to devote at least ten minutes a day to the lessons and who is familar enough with the study of foreign languages to pick one up without outside coaching. The guide itself is highly portable and can be used anytime the student has the opportunity.The guide covers the basics of the German language in a self-paced manner. Dedicated study should enable the traveler to Germany to acculmulate a basic vocabulary sufficient to read signs, menus, and other public displays, handle money, and to ask and answer simple questions. Conversational German would likely be much more challenging without additional training materials, classroom instruction, or practice with someone already familar with spoken German.This guide is highly recommended to the beginner in German looking for a basic introduction to the language, and to the student with some pre-existing familarity with German who is looking for a refresher course.
I use this book as a German teacher. It is great for beginners, as it is a quick and easy introduction. Unfortunately, it is in certain parts outdated ("Kinder, Küche, Kirche" Was this book written in the 50s?) and completely ignores the verb conjugation with the pronoun "Du", the casual form of "you", in opposite to "Sie". As Du is today in daily life probably more in use than Sie, this is a big miss. To work with this book the student needs a teacher or at least someone who knows how to speak German and can help with the pronauncation.
I have purchased 5-6 of this book over the past few years. While no one can learn any language in 10 minutes a day...tif you use this book and do the prescribed work, use the stickers and learn the articles with the words...not just the word...in German the article (die,der,das) is as important as the word...you can function in the language. This is a very important way to begin to learn how to use German. It also is available in other languages. I even met an Italian in Venice that was learning Chinese from the "Learn Chinese in 10 Minutes a Day" in Italian. I also bought it for a lady...Russian to English. I cannot recommend it more...it can work if you put the work to it.
This is a really good book for somebody who wants to learn some German quickly and painlessly. I like the exercise pages and the stickers one can tack onto various items to learn what things are called in German. I ordered this book for my husband and the fun, engaging content made him eager to start learning.
I love these "10 minutes a day" language books. They start with basic function words like who, what, when, and pronouns and simple verbs and give you tons of examples of simple sentences using them. Each lesson has enough repetition to get you competent on that material, and then subsequent lessons keep incorporating the words you've already used for additional practice. It's so easy and so much fun that it's hard to stop at just 10 minutes. I kept going until my mind started to get buzzy at first. Probably better to take it in smaller chunks as the book is designed. It's a great introduction to a new language.
Cool book, I wish it was really separated what is that to do for 10 min today, tomorrow and so on.. I just have to choose where to stop, so I dont actually spend only 10 min, and skip many days... I was looking for something that is kind of separated what is that to do every day. if it a matter of myself separating what to do, then, ANY book can be 10 min a day.

I like the format of this book. I used it in business years ago and just purchased this for my grandchildren. They are moving to Germany with their parents on a 3-year job assignment. I particularly found the small que cards very useful.
