great YOGA book for my friend

In the spirit of full disclosure, based on my previous Amazon reviews, I was contacted by the publisher and invited to review this book. Since I neither practice yoga nor I am familiar with yogic philosophy, I almost said no. But there was something in the book’s description that resonated with me, so I said yes. I was provided with a print copy of the book to read.In the Introduction, the author declares that “the teachings in the book can be of value to anyone seeking spiritual wisdom and self-development.” She believes that “the truths held within these pages are universal and not limited to those engaged in yoga.” After reading the book, I believe she is absolutely right.The book particularly focuses of the practices of Yama and Niyama which are practical guidelines for self-development. A chapter in the book is devoted to each. The practice of Yama is looking at the practices you should avoid. The practice of Niyama is about the practices one should embrace.In the Preface, the author writes: “A few Sanskrit terms important to yogic philosophy and practice are used, as their meaning is more precise in Sanskrit. They are usually defined immediately after the word.” In addition, the author provided a Glossary of Sanskrit terms. Despite the author’s best efforts, I found the use of so many Sanskrit terms throughout the book a major distraction to my reading of the book.Even with the use of so many Sanskrit words, I found the book to be very well written and an enjoyable read. I particularly enjoyed the later chapters where the author showed how Yama and Niyama might actually be put into practice. It is clear the author is well versed in yogic philosophy. She also did a great job integrating yogic philosophy with her background as a psychologist.If you are interested in yoga, yogic philosophy and self-development, this book should be on your reading list. And even if you are only interested in self-development, this book should be on your reading list as well.

Living Love is exceptionally well-written and very helpful on many levels. The author is a gentle coach, and encourages us to live more harmoniously within ourselves and in the world around us. "To change this we need to bring attention to our habits, and then begin consciously cultivating new ones that we want to have." The glossary of Sanskrit is helpful, as is the last chapter, entitled The Work; each practice is listed along with self-assessment questions e.g.:" Have my thoughts or actions injured anyone today?" "Have I taken anything today that belongs to another?" "Have I noticed the needs of others today?" As a physical therapist, and author of Your Body Book Guide to Better Body Motion with Less Pain, I am passionate about helping others to successfully manage their health. This includes our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. This book is a great tool for our own health, that of others, and for our world!

This really a wonderful and insightful book. It offers a lot to the spiritual seeker, from daily meditations to different perspectives on life,loving and living. to read and I think it offersa lot to the reader who wishes to refer to it on a regular basis. While I enjoyed and would recommend the book to all seekers......I found one aspect that I found to be a minor distraction. The author offers a lot of new terms, presumably Buddhist or Hindu. They are loosely defined when presented, but lack any clear and concise definition and/or pronunciation. I think it would be very useful to first define the word and provide the reader with the correct pronunciation before proceeding. I found it difficult to maintain my train of thought when my brain was preoccupied with pronouncing the new word. All things considered.....I would recommend thks book to all.

I received this book as a gift and surprisingly gave me a deeper understanding of the Spiritual side of "Yoga" that i never image. Lots of people like me, practice yoga but were never aware of the teachings that encourage to live with love and respect for all of Creation . Love, Forgiveness, Gratitude, and Compassion are all part of a Yoga that is alive and that can help you heal your mind and balance your emotions. Believe this is a "must read" for every Yoga teacher and student who wants to reap the benefits of its teachings and what it means to go deeper into the Spiritual side of the Yoga philosophy and how it will makes our world a better place to live because we want to become instruments of Love and Happiness through willingness to serve others, forgiveness and compassion. This is a book that will bring you Peace and Joy when taking your time to read "sip by sip" with a cup of tea. Thank you.
