These cruising guides have been the go to guide for the last 12 years at least. I suspect you'll see this book in over 90% of the boats sailing up and down the windward islands.I purchased the most recent version of this for a bareboat trip I did with my wife in the grenadines last month. The maps are great for getting into and out of harbor, and I the harbor details are perfect. I did not need any reach charts for this trip, because this guide is so good. If you have a gps and this book, you are good to go.I love the descriptions of all the harbors and suggestions of activities at each stop. This book is essential to anybody planning on going cruising in the Caribbean!
I like the fact that they are warning us about dangers beyond the water. I haven't sailed there yet but the book is laid out like the guide for the BVI'S.
We spend the winters in the Caribbean every year and we would not set off without the full set of cruising guides from Chris Doyle.
Very useful especially the detailed descriptions of the bays and harbors, photos gave a good complementary view and feel for the area. Some facts were though missing, e.g. that Mustique is closed for visitors during 3 periods of the year.
I was ripped off by this seller! This is at best a $39.00 cruising guide. Not the chart set I ordered for $193.00!!
This is a "real" guide. It has been carefully compiled and includes all the information which any water-borne visitor will need to know when visiting the Windward Islands., These are (in the order they appear in the book); Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Bequia (pronounced Beckway), Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, Tobago Cays, Palm Island, Union Island, PSV and Petite Martinique, Grenada, Carriacou, and, of course, each of the passages between these enchanting islands.In an informative introduction, which gets anyone who is sitting in a cold house during an American or European harsh winter (like I am!) wanting to reach for the phone and book a flight, we learn something about the local land and the customs of the people who live there. There are also a number of helpful suggestions on any topic from "what to bring" to sunburn - and it's all useful stuff, even for the seasoned traveller.Then it's on to the cruising information with notes on weather and navigation as well as more general information about scuba diving, flora, fauna and even the flags of the different countries visited. From now on we get down to cases in the order of march already mentioned.Telling people how they should navigate their boat is a very responsible undertaking. Forget to include that, otherwise well known, underwater obstacle and you can guarantee at least 3 boats will have hit the darned thing within the first 24 hours of your book being published. This book, however, is a professional work and I doubt any yacht or other small boat travelling to and from these small islands will be without a copy.NM
We used this guide extensively and found it to be invaluable..it contained specific information about water depth, including maps. This is so important as there are alot of shoals in the Windwards. We also found this guide to contain all kinds of info about restaurants, customs locations, farmers markets and good places to shop.
How is it possible that this book costs $899.00 brand new?!! We have the 2007-2008 version we received from the Moorings and I KNOW it didn't cost them that much!
